You may be asking yourself, "what is a fly-in," and why would I want to go?
Well, let's start with what it is - Dictionary.Com defines a fly-in as:
noun
1. a convention, entertainment, or other gathering at which participants arrive by air.
adjective:
2. of or for those who arrive and usually depart by air.
With that in mind, let's go ahead and answer the "why would I want to go" question because, let's be honest - most of us don't fly. This aviation event hosted by My Place 3OH7 in rural Cardington, Ohio, is one of the best small-town events I have attended. The primary goal and focus of the fly-in are to introduce new people to the world of aviation and to encourage potential new pilots. If this event doesn't do it, I am not sure anything will.
My Place 3OH7 hosts an event that is for guests of all ages. We have been to this event several times, and each year, it seems that it is bigger and better than the year before. Beyond having an aircraft land and take-off right beside you, guests can walk through and see the aircraft up close and ask questions (please remember - look, don't touch.) The event also offers a car show, local artisans, great food, and many activities for the kids, including train rides, hayrides, a corn pit, milking cow trainer, popsicle stick airplane painting, a pond, swings, slides, ice cream and more! Oh, I forgot to mention that you can take your own airplane ride! Sparks Fly Air Tours and Good Folk & O'Types Biplane rides are available. Both companies are Ohio-based commercial operators. Airplane rides are typically available from 9:00 - 4:00. I was up with Keith from Sparks Fly earlier this year, and he does an outstanding job! Definitely an experience that we won't forget.
This event is typically held on the second Sunday in October. Please Like the My Place 3OH7 Facebook Page to stay up to date on this year's event and additional information on the show.
