We loved Gringos! Another great location where my son, Tyler, was able to experience through a show for his job. Gringos is a vibrant, unique restaurant that offers excellent food, excellent service, an outdoor patio, and a fun atmosphere. The walls and ceiling in the main part of the restaurant are painted black with colorful flowers dancing skeletons, and sugar skulls on the walls, which are taken from the Mexican holiday, Dia De Los Muertos, or as most of us know it, the Mexican Day of the Dead Celebration. A garage door opens to an outdoor seating area that is part of the Phelps Street pedestrian mall, which adds to the fun and happening atmosphere. The restaurant, in total, will seat close to 100 guests.
This happening spot is owned by Jorge Carreno, Rodney Freel, and Ken Vigorito. Carreno, who is a veteran chef who also owns and operates Margharita’s Grille in Girard, said that “The menu is a little piece of (Oaxaca (pronounced wa-Ha-la), which is a state in Mexico where the Spanish and native cultures meet, with a twist of America and Mexico City.” Carreno went on to say that the foundation for the menu ultimately has a foundation from Oaxaca. While the menu is small, some of the spices and ingredients that it offers, I have never experienced in a taco before. From start to finish – we could not have been more satisfied!
Great job, Gringos!
